Murphy’s professional acting journey began in 1996 when he made his stage debut in Enda Walsh’s play “ Disco Pigs”. The fascination with acting continued and he took to the stage, performing in various productions and honing his craft. He played in several bands with his brother, performed at local venues, and even turned down a record deal in order to retain control of his music.Įventually, Murphy enrolled at University College Cork to study law, but he soon realized that it was not his true calling. With the encouragement of his English teacher, novelist William Wall, Murphy decided to pursue acting instead of his early dream of becoming a rock star. This experience lit a fire within him and propelled him on the path of pursuing a career in acting. It was during this time that Murphy got his first taste of acting when he participated in a drama module presented by the Korcadorca Theater Company. Although he excelled academically, he found comfort in artistic pursuits rather than sports, which dominated the school’s curriculum. ![]() Murphy attended Presentation Brothers College, a Catholic secondary school in Cork. ![]() He started writing songs and playing the guitar when he was just ten years old and showed his artistic talent even then. Growing up with his younger brother and two sisters, Murphy discovered his passion for acting at an early age. His mother, a French teacher, and his father, who worked for the Department of Education, instilled in him a love of learning and creativity.
